Faction
From Shadowrun: Awakened
A faction is an organization within the game world, such as a corporation, gang, or government. Big Ten megacorps, UCAS, LoneStar, and the Yakuza are all examples of Factions. The list of Factions shows all of them currently being utilized by writers and supported by artists.
Game Rules Description
If you look at every nuyen flowing through the shadows, each one will flow back to some big, bad faceless organization. They're only spending it to get the underhanded edge over a competing big, bad organization. Conglomeration and extraterritoriality in Shadowrun means organizations, be they corporations or organized crime syndicates, only survive by buying up or selling out and being about as dangerous as most developed countries in the present day. Runners don't always know who their foes work for, and often times conflict becomes personal, but the big boys are always watching. They're looking for the next person willing to do something bad to get the edge, move into new markets, and eliminate the competition.
Not every run in the world of SRA will be part of some political play between factions, but each of the storylines created by the team will be tangled conflicts between factions that are struggling for power.
Technical Implementation
Each character in Shadowrun, PC and NPC, will have a Reputation with each faction. By default, that reputation will be neutral, but as the character works for or against an organization, it will start to shift into either a friendly or adversarial relationship. Factions will be vested with the ability to offer missions and assistance to friends and send out hits on enemies.
